My Latest Project

June 27, 2008

Well in an effort to get my hand moving, I started drawing these little girls.  I made a pregnant one for a pregnant friend, and I made a boy one for Riley.  I drew them on sketch paper and then I edited them in photoshop so they would appear more cartoon like.  Then I decided that I would make a small book for Kaitlyn.  Her little book is going to have 10 pages I think, and be locally related - marinas, beaches, and stuff.

Let me know what you think of the cartoon girls.  I also listed a few of them on etsy to sell as prints.  You can find my etsy here.

Riley’s Birthday Party

June 23, 2008

Before I talk about Riley’s party, I want to talk about Ashley’s party last weekend.  She had a fun sleepover.  I have pictures but they are on a disc somewhere…the computer crashed right after her party, that’s why the confusion.  UGH!

Anyhow, we had Riley’s party at the beach, it was so much fun.  He had a huge turnout.  His theme was candy and color.  Kaitlyn loved jumping into the ocean, and Ash was a regular fish.  Here are some pictures…

I put signs like these on all of the posts, and I also had made kites with streamers.

A close up of one of the party favors.  I rolled ice cream cones in white chocolate and then we put sprinkles on them before it cooled.  Inside the cones were: pixie sticks, tootsie pop, dum dum lolly, twizler, candy dots, and a kazoo.  These were a HUGE hit.

Riley LOVED the pixie sticks.

During the cake singing.  It was so awesome, people that we didn’t even know were singing to him.  Like half the beach sang happy birthday.  He was so excited!

And last but not least, his main present from us: A pirate ship.  Notice his tongue poking out???

And I’m proud of it!  I had this idea you see for paper dolls.  Specifically magnetic ones that the kids could easily play with.  Well I decided to put their faces on the dolls.  So I found some awesome paper dolls online at www.makingfriends.com and photoshopped the kids heads on the dolls.  Then printed it out on magnetic paper - sold at Office Max.  The hardest part of the whole project was trying to get a good facing forward image of Kaitlyn.  But she was so excited to have "her" doll.  Then Riley was jealous, so I made him one too.  And Jennifer had a brilliant idea to get cookie sheets to play with them on - cookie sheets are metal and the magnets stick.  Genius!  Anyhow, here’s a couple pics…

Riley's Paper Doll 1

I’ve only had the dolls a day, and already I can see the value in this toy.  It’s perfect for quieter play.  And that website has boy dress up clothes too, which I thought was just awesome!  I printed off the pirate and magician for Riley.  Oh and I used a roll of laminate to help protect the dolls.  YAY!!

Just Turned Out Cool

June 11, 2008

So I’ve been making outfits for Kaitlyn (yes, one handed) and was toying with the idea of selling them.  So this leads to an impromptu photo session to show my mom the outfits.  Jennifer and I run outside with Kaitlyn and took some pictures.  Do you see the hiding visitor??
